The End of The Other Page

I wanted a finish for the year end and here it is.  With X-Rated Bloodsuckers I have managed to work my way through the entire alphabet.

Thanks to Topcho who inspired me to start this and Stitching Daze who introduced me to a really funny A book.

Next year: Series!!! (and much more stitching)

Silent Time

Now that I’ve missed at least one check in date for everything I’ve signed up for, (sorry all) it’s time to right this wagon and roll on.

I do have some things to show for my silent time. Here’s the latest Retro Cat progress.  Still not done with the purple.  Darn.

And I have a couple of finishes.  One is from Lizzie Kate’s Tiny Tidings # XVII.

The other one is a Dork Stitch sprite.

AKA the 4th Doctor.  Anyone else going to see the 50th Anniversary Special in the theater?  I’ve got my ticket!!

October Catch Up

Behind the times again, imagine my surprise.

I didn’t make a YOTA post Saturday, but there was stitching! Here’s where it ended up.

More purple, for those like me who need reminding.

I finished this at the end of September and was going to post it for Theme-A-Licious.  Then I decided I didn’t want to add words to it.

It just seems so obvious that it’s a “Kirk Hootie.”

So then, I thought about posting something I was inspired to add words to.

In the end I didn’t post that either, until now.

The Kirk Hootie pattern is by Mini Cross Stitch.
The Rory pattern is by Dork Stitch.

A Mystery Finish

Over the weekend, for IHSW, I worked on my mystery project I started last month.  As of today I can declare it finished.

This (in case you were wondering) is a tricorder based on the original Star Trek series.  It is from the aptly titled book “Star Trek Cross Stitch” by John Lohman.  A very cool book filled with many more patterns trying to entice me.

In the mean time I should get back to everything else.

Theme-A-Licious Somewhere in the middle of September

I finished stitching this piece yesterday. (Honest) While it’s not quite ready to post on the Halloween SAL, it’s perfect for Theme-A-Licious.
Look – words!

Ok, one word.  This is by Glory Bee from the 2013 JCS Halloween Special.  The colors are all from my stash.

The “Wow I want to start something” part of me wants to start a Lizzie Kate piece from one of the Tiny Tidings for my September ornament.  To which the “Geez I need to finish something” part shakes its head at.  So I ignored both parts (and the shreds of my common sense) and bought into the new Lizzie Kate Christmas Mystery Sampler.  I’m calling it a birthday present to myself.  When I started it yesterday, I actually tried to measure out the spacing.  Which was a good thing because I found out the fabric piece was short on one side.  Not cool peeps!  And the LNS never called me to say it was in.  So I’m like a week behind. Good thing I know it won’t be finished by Christmas.  I have it started.  And the moral of all that babbling is nonexistent because I’ll probably start the Tiny Tidings piece soon too. :-)

YOTA Purple Progress

One of these days when I look at this and think I could do something besides the purple I will.  Until then, look, more purple! J

Theme-A-Licious August Wrap Up

I managed to put my long weekend to a little bit of good use and actually get in a finish.

This is my Theme-A-Licious ornament finish (for August).

It’s called Festive Flamingo (clever name) from the Stoney Creek book, Tropical Christmas.

Stitched on 14 count Polar Ice, because that’s what I had and I wanted to see what it looked like.  Not bad, as it turns out.

Wipocalypse August Update

I’ve made an adjustment.  I’ve combined my Wipocalypse and YOTA projects.  For the rest of the year I will just work on the Retro Cat for both reports.  So the Retro Cat looks like this.

While I had it out for the picture I even managed to put a few more stitches on it.  Plus, I realized the next YOTA report isn’t this coming Saturday but the one after.  This could be the beginning of some beautiful progress. J

IHSW Monday recap

My stitching went off in many directions.

Theme-A-Licious main piece.

Theme-A-Licious Christmas piece.

Halloween SAL piece.

And a mystery piece. Which if I don’t have it finished on time (like this week??? Ha!) may remain a mystery.

Plus I’ve at least decided on the piece I’d like to do for the Ornament SAL this month.  Always a good place to start.

Be sure to check all the IHSW updates here.

Theme-A-Licious Mid Month

The theme for the month is wings.  My idea of what to do hasn’t gotten past the thought.  Here’s hoping it'll take flight soon.

I did make a start on the Christmas side.  So far it looks like this.

You can’t see the bird for the wreath yet but it should fly in any day now. J

IHSW this weekend.  Maybe I’ll put out some bird food and see what turns up.

The Other Page

Fortunately summer and its second cousin heat haven’t quite put a stop to my other favorite activity, reading.

At long last I’ve updated my Tiki Reads page.  In case anyone but me cares.  Lo and behold I have only 8 more books to make it all the way through the alphabet.  And I think I’ve found a way to put a dent in that number, as well as my TBR hallway, courtesy of Dr. Who.  Because, in my ceaseless attempts to collect everything, I have enough of the BBC Dr. Who books to fill in at least 5 more letters of the alphabet.  I could use some suggestions for A, X and Z.  Reading the classics would be more enriching I guess, but I’m in this for the fun.

Happy Friday

It’s the last Friday in July and I don’t have too much stitching to show for it.  But I do have this.

The design is by Lucie Heaton from the June issue of Cross Stitch Crazy.  It just seemed to say “Wouldn’t I make a nice bookmark?”

Now that I feel somewhat re-inspired, I’m going to try to make some progress on other things.  Do Not Disturb comes to mind.  That’s to (hopefully) keep me from starting a completely new project.  After all, the heat may slow down stitching but nothing stops stash building!

YOTA - July 2013

It’s YOTA time!!

I started to fill in more purple.  Until I decided I had to fill in the blue.  You can see how well that went. J  Lots of choices for the month.  Will it be blue, purple, orange or something completely different?  Tune in next month to find out.  Same stitch time, same stitch channel.

Ornament SAL June

This month’s finish is last month’s Theme-A-Licious ornament piece, designed by Lesley Teare.

There seems to be nothing much more to say right now.  Guess that means it’s time to stitch. J

WIPocalypse June - Cats and Doctors

Here’s my progress on Do Not Disturb.

More on the sunglasses and book.  It’s tempting to start on the actual cat, but I need to finish this bottom section first.

As Dork Stitch mentioned, she was kind enough to give me early access to her 6th Doctor pattern.  Colin Baker was a guest at Denver Comic Con this year and I thought it would be a nice way to celebrate. Here’s how he turned out.

How cool, right?  I picked up the tag at the con, I thought they went well together.  Thanks for another great pattern, Dork Stitch!!

A Weekend Finish!!

Looks like Mal won’t be around for IHSW anymore.  I managed to finish him this past weekend.

He still needs a wash, but I like the way he turned out.

Fortunately there’s no shortage of projects waiting to take his place. J

YOTA June update

You should think of this not in terms of what did (or didn’t) happen to it in May.  You should think of all the potential it shows so far in June.  Just look at those cute purple circles. J

Theme-A-Licious May wrap-up

Monochrome May went fairly well.  I finished the first half of my future needlebook (or something).

There was a little more progress on the Santa.

Jumanji June will either see the return of the sheep I was working on earlier or more Hooties.  J

Ornament SAL May

Here’s my almost done ornament for the month.

His name is Iron Hootie.  For real.  He’s part of a set called Superhero Hooties.  You can find him and many others at  Hootie Central.

This one will be finished as soon as I decide how to attach him to that black felt he’s sitting on.

WIPocalypse May

In an effort to avoid a, “Whoops I forgot to stitch on this” post, I took out Do Not Disturb on Sunday.  Freed from its hiding place, I added some more sand on the right side.

Once I was stitching, it was easy to make plans for more progress.  It was just as easy to put away again for my other distractions.  Some of which I plan to post before the week is done.  All while hoping I remember to take the Retro Cat out so I don’t have to make a Whoops post for YOTA this Saturday. J

IHSW - May 2013

Let’s see, what did I work on this weekend?  Little bits here and there.

We have a little more Mal.

A little more blue.

And a little more red.

Pretty good weekend overall.  Hope yours was too.

Theme-A-Mid May

Tragically, I feel as if I haven’t exploited the full potential of Monochrome May.  I only have two new starts to report. J

One is from the French blog Le blog de Louison.  She has, at last count, 178 different biscornu patterns. Very inspirational and well worth a look.  My current plan is to take two and turn them into my first needle book.  Here’s my progress so far.

For the Christmas side, I decided on this little Santa.  The pattern is by Lesley Teare from an issue of Cross Stitcher Celebrations.

IHSW is this weekend.  Perfect time for more new starts and even a finish.  Dream big right?

YOTA May

May is going to be a good month.  Why not, right?  Yesterday I got out the Retro Cat and filled in more of the darker purple.

And when I combine YOTA with Theme-A-Licious Monochrome May, its all the more reason to work on those big blocks of color.

Here’s to a good month for everyone.  Check out all the YOTA participants here.

Theme-A-Licious April Wrap Up

Ok, so I admit I kind of missed the target on Amazon April.  But I did stitch at least once on my biggest project along with all my other stitching, I’m pretty happy with that.

Monochrome May should be fun.  I’ve picked out a Santa I want to start that’s all done in 321.  And I like Heather’s idea of working on just one color in a bigger project.  What about one color in a bunch of smaller projects?  Ha, ha, more starts!!!

WIPocalypse April

I haven’t worked on Do Not Disturb this month at all.  Not quite the backlash I expected from working on it so much last month, but there you go.

Of course, I have worked on other things.  Today, I’m working on this.

Spells by The Stitcherhood as found in the 2012 JCS Halloween special issue.  It will be done as soon as I give up and put in the last color on the pattern and stop trying to change it.  This would be a good thing since the SAL I’m participating in calls for it to be finished (as in ornament) by tomorrow. Sure thing!

Do Not Disturb will be back next month bigger and better than ever.  Slightly bigger at least.

Ornament SAL April

Well, I started two different pieces for my ornament sals this month.  Which means I have a slight head start for a future month. J I do have one finish.

Santa is design #284 from the book 365 Christmas Designs by Kooler Designs.  I left the striped stockings but I had to change the eyes.  For some reason they were charted in the same red as his coat.  Too weird!!

IHSW April results

It’s snowing again!?

On a cheerier note, no more Doctors L Yet! But a little more Mal.

Mostly boots and backstitch to go.  Something for next month’s IHSW if not sooner.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and an even better week to come.  And I know I never say it enough but thanks for all your views and comments.

Start with a Finish

So I thought up this cool blog title. J  Then I had to make it come true.  Here’s the result.

Doctor #2 by Dork Stitch.  Now I just have 4 & 9 to go.  I would say I’d work on them this weekend, but Mal is clamoring for attention.  Which also means I could put them all aside and work on something else!  At least IHSW is off to a good start.

Theme-A-Licious Mid April

It’s Amazon April!  So far I’ve worked on my biggest picture, The Summer Ball, twice.  The impressive part of that would be if it was twice as large as it was before.  Not yet, but it is bigger.

For my Santa ornament for the month I picked one from the book, 365 Christmas Designs by Kooler Designs.  White on antique white is as much fun as white on white (who knew).  Still, that part is done and things should get more colorful from now on.

I leave you today with one final thought.  If it’s the 15th of April, why is this the view out of my door? J

YOTA April update

I started off deciding to finish the orange thread that was left over in the Theme-a-licious wrap up picture.  After that I was in the mood to keep going.  So ta-da, the chair is finished on both sides to the bottom of the cat.

So now I just have to find another skein of floss to finish the bottom of the chair.

In the meantime to celebrate Sprite Stitch April (see Dork Stitch’s blog here), I give you the 11th Doctor.

Can the 2nd, 4th, and 9th Doctors be far behind?  Depends on how fast I stitch. J

Theme-A-Licious March wrap up

March madness has been good to me.  There was progress on both the Retro Cat

And Do Not Disturb.

The challenge for April will be to keep making progress while adding in the Ballroom picture for Amazon April.  Fun!

No ornament for March but I’m looking forward to trying to decide on a Santa.  Or better than that, more than one!!
